Hurrican Gustave

It's almost midnight and the wind is strong, and some rain is falling...but we have only lost power for a few seconds today. So far, Louisiana has been so fortunate...our state has not yet fully recovered from Katrina. The highway through Columbia was bumper-to-bumper on Sunday and ALL the motels near and far were full. There are 2 shelters full in our town of 500. I am so glad it was NOT another Katrina....so much sorrow and so many lives altered forever.
I know this blog is supposed to be abour quilting, but I just can't resist a little smocking/sewing now and then...Especially smocking...so brace yourself for more pix!

Here are a couple of smocking pix...It's not All about quilting!

SAGA Meeting!

Yesterday was SAGA meeting day and we had 10 members and 2 visitors! Our group is new...just formed in March 2008, so we have plenty of room to grow...but all our ladies are so sweet, and talented! We have been meeting in a quilt shop but found out yesterday that we must move, as the shop will no longer be open for evening activities. One of our members found that the Monroe La. library will allow us to meet there, so next meeting will be 6:00 pm, September 2, 2008 at the Monroe public library on 18th street.
SAGA advises NOT meeting in a shop, and I didn't understand why...but now I do. I'm a little sad, because I truly love the quilt shop and all the ladies working there. Happily, our SAGA group seems strong and will continue!
I wish I would have taken photos at the meeting, but instead, I'll put up a few smocking pix...Enjoy!

A Blog! Now what do I do?

I've been reading alot of quilter's and needlecrafter's blogs lately and really enjoy them. Especially the ones with photos. My husband, Tommy and I are trying to learn to quilt on a longarm machine, and it sure is NOT easy. We have been getting better... I hope to have some photos of quilts posted soon.
